About Genmaicha

Genmaicha is a blend of organic green tea and roasted Japanese rice. You can enjoy the health benefits of green tea, and the filling effect of rice grains, which make it an excellent choice for those on a calorie controlled diet, as it’s almost entirely free of calories but still satisfies the appetite. Enjoyed before a meal, it can actually work as a completely natural appetite suppressant, thanks to the naturally occurring sugars and starches present in the rice grains.

The flavor of the roasted rice and green tea combine to create a taste reminiscent of toasted nuts. This is due to the roasting process, which causes the rice to burst into little pieces of popcorn, leaving you with a brew which is not only deliciously satisfying, but visually intriguing.

Quick to brew in hot water, Genmaicha will fill the air with a tantalizing aroma which is sure to have everyone hooked.

How to make hot Genmaicha:

  1. Add 2 tsp of Nanami Genmaicha to the infuser of a teapot.
  2. Add 16 ounces of water at 205° F into the teapot.
  3. Steep for less than 2 minutes, remove the tea infuser from the teapot, or pour all the tea into a cup to avoid over steeping.
  4. Enjoy the second infusion by adding additional hot water to the teapot.

How to make iced Genmaicha:

  1. Add 2 tsp of Nanami Genmaicha in the tea infuser or tea filter.
  2. Put the infuser or filter into a bottle and add 16 ounces of filtered water.
  3. Steep in the fridge for 6-8 hours or overnight.
  4. Remove the tea infuser or filter and the iced tea is ready.
